When I first got this phone, I was wondering how I could connect the phone without having to start Kies all the time and I'm pretty sure a lot of other Android beginners have been wondering the same. It's pretty simple.

First of all, you will need Kies installed, because it will also install USB Drivers for you.

Now connect the phone through your USB cable and wait a few seconds for stuff to display and the sound to play meaning you have it connected.

Drag the status bar down to go to the notification screen and tap on "Select to copy files to/from your computer."
It will take you to this screen:
Tap on "Connect USB storage", wait a few seconds and your computer will recognize your drive:
That is all. You no longer need to run Kies in order to transfer data now that you know this.

Tiny Flashlight + LED

A very handy tool for our phone when you are somewhere out in the woods, the power goes down and you don't have a real flashlight with you, well this is the solution.
I have used it several times and it's perfect, not only white color but you get to choose various options.
The first is regular light (White) by clicking the button on the center.
Second is warning lights, good to show some signals.
Third is lightbulb. Pretty much the same as the first but in a form of a lightbulb but on this one you can change the contrast and colors.
Fourth is color light, you can change the colors by dragging with your finger up/down/left/right to starting from light colors to dark.
Fifth is police lights. I did a prank with that one to my parent's room, it's pretty awesome. :)

[Game Review] Trial Xtreme

Thursday, March 15, 2012
Posted by Unknown

As I promised in the TX2 review, I will check this one out.
The jump option is not included in this first version, it comes after the 2nd Trial Xtreme. Another good thing is, you get an option on how to control the rear. Either by motion sensor or buttons on the screen.
Some levels are quite challenging and I bet there are plenty more on the full version, below in the video I'm only demonstrating you the demo one:

Last few words:
Good graphics, runs very stable on our SGY, no root needed, no Chainfire 3D.

Installing Chainfire 3D on Samsung Galaxy Y

Your SGY needs to be rooted in order to use this. How to root - Click here.
Now this is really helpful if you want to play so called "incompatible" games for the phone. Games such as Avatar HD, Gangstar West Coast Hustle, Brothers in Arms 2, etc..

First of all, here are the download links as mentioned in the video below:

Now after you have downloaded the needed files, follow the steps in the video below to install it:
Video:

But that is not all. Now to configure it a bit. Run Chainfire 3D and go to Default OpenGL Settings and tick the box Reduce texture quality and Reduce texture size. Go to Use plugin and select QUALCOMM.
After that, these settings are saved and from now on all you have to do is start Chainfire 3D, minimize it by pressing the home button and start the HD game you've been dreaming for.
Developer site: www.chainfire.eu

Chainfire 3D cannot find plugins? Read:
A lot of people keep posting comments on YouTube video and here that Chainfire cannot find the plugin files. Well, it's because you are doing it wrong. After you extract the Plug-ins.zip file, do NOT extract the 3 files that are inside, leave them as they are and copy them to SD card, Chainfire should then recognize them.

Another thing before we are done:
Due to installing Chainfire 3D and enabling those 2 options about texture reducing, it is possible that your Gallery will be messed up and some games too, for now I have only noticed Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Rio. To solve that problem simply start Chainfire 3D and untick those 2 options that are for reducing quality. After you are done exit the program and try your game again, it should work, incase it doesn't, try a reboot of the phone.

[Tutorial] How to use mp3 files as ringtones

In this guide I will show you how to use your mp3 songs as ringtones since there is no option "Use as" on them.

First of all let's start by going to the directory where your mp3 files are located, Go to My Files:
In my case the songs are in the folder Media:

Go to wherever your mp3 files are and once it lists them, press the options key on your phone (the left one) and a bottom menu should appear. Tap on More:
 More options will appear:
Now it is up to you if you would like to either move or copy the choosen mp3 file to the folder we are about to make. Once you've decided which option to choose, choose it and it will ask you where to place it, but first of all tap on Create folder
Make a folder named ringtones:
Get into the folder and press Paste here:
Depending on the file size it will take a second or two for the file to be moved/copied.
Once you are done copying/moving, exit from everything and go back to the Settings menu and then go to Sound:
Then go to Phone ringtone:
A popup will appear with the ringtones added by Samsung and somewhere at the bottom you should see your copied/moved mp3 files:
Choose your desired song and press OK.

You now have a custom ringtone. That was all.
Now here is another RPG game which is worth the money. The graphics are very nice and the performance is very good, except the text is a bit hard to read on the SGY's small display but it's nothing bad. The dialogues are also voice acted which means you can read AND hear. It is possible you may experience a few bugs on the device such as the sound going away, just like it happened to the video but I have not had any other problems other than that. Please note I sometimes re-install the apps to show you the stuff from the beginning.

Screens taken through the SGY:

I have no idea how that happened on the 3rd screenshot but the black line was not there while I was playing.

[Game Review] Ceramic Destroyer

Saturday, March 10, 2012

This is one of the games you could call addictive that tells you to don't stop playing. It's not hard but it's fun destroying those ceramic pieces. There are 4 types of bombs with different functions, more than 140 ceramic figures. Your target is to use the bombs to destroy the various ceramics but make sure you destroy the whole ceramic as much as you can to complete the level.
1 star for 90% completion
2 stars for 95%
and 3 stars for 100%

You can download this game for free at the Android Market: Click here.
I have not played the first version of this and people say it's a lot better. I will try it out on our SGY in the near future. This one has good graphics, some people seem to be complaining of this being buggy on their devices but on the SGY there are almost no problems. It's playable, the performance is not bad at all. In the video at the beginning you may notice a little lag, I'm pretty sure that is from loading the textures and objects because I didnt'wait at all and immediatelly started.

The Samsung Galaxy series seem to encode the recordings into 3ga files but with perfect clear quality, it's simply amazing. Small information on the 3ga file:
"3GA file is an audio only 3GP media for third generation mobile phones."

Now there is another way to have your computer play the file with Windows Media Player and that is by renaming the extension from .3ga to .mp3 but that won't completely "convert" it.

A while ago while browsing the web I came across a thread in a forum explaining a small trick to have them to mp3. Here are the steps:

Step 1:
Download the free program 3GP to MP3 Converter and install it.

Before we proceed to step 2, open up your Folder Options menu and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
Apply and click Ok

Step 2:
Now that you are able to see and rename the extension, rename it from .3ga to .3gp

Step 3:
Run 3GP to MP3 Converter program and browse the 3gp file you just renamed and choose save location on the second browse button on the program.

Step 4:
After you are done choosing the file you want to convert and save location, click "Convert".
Depending on the file size you will have to wait a few seconds, in my case it was a 275 kb file and it took less than a second.  Now you will notice that the file size is very low than the original but you can feel the same sound quality as before.

That was all. :)

[App review] TeamViewer for Android

Friday, March 9, 2012

I'm pretty sure all of you know about the popular Remote Access program TeamViewer which you use to help out your buddies with computer problems and other stuff. Today while browsing the Android Market I came across it and thought I'd test and show it to you.

First of all, here are some screenshots of me using it on the Galaxy Y:
Now for this, I think you would need a pretty decent internet connection such as WiFi and not from your operator's network because on the video below I was having trouble connecting at first (which part I cut on the video) after that, it took me a while for the desktop wallpaper to disappear. You can also view in landscape mode by rotating the phone.

Video:

You can download this for free from the Android Market. Click here.
Another fun little game to kill some time. This can also be called an adictive game. There are also several modes which you can choose. You can notice them when you watch the video below while I'm at the menu.

Video:

You can get it for free at the Android Market. Click here.
The smash hit iOS game is also available for Android! It runs very good on our Galaxy Young with no lag or anything like that.

Warning: This game is addictive! ;)

[Tutorial] Enable your SGY to install apk files

Enabling that option makes you vulnerable to harmful files so install at your own risk!

Go to Menu -> Settings - then Applications
Then you should see the option Unknown sources:
By default it would be unchecked, tick the checkbox and you will get a warning screen. If you are willing to take the risk then go on and check it.
Now you can install applications that are not from the Android Market.
First of all, this is strictly for personal use only. Sharing the apk files with the world is like piracy and I'm pretty sure the developers wouldn't like it. I'm only showing you this because there are cases when you need to do operations such as flashing, rooting and other stuff that could end up deleting your installed stuff.

Examples are:
1. You may want to free up some space for another game or app but you don't want to lose the game/app so you back it up using this method.
2. You want to upgrade the game but it turns out the new one is having problems running well, you backup your app.

So let's begin. First of all, get File Expert. Install it and run it. Once you are there go to My Apps:

After that, it list your installed Apps such as your games and other stuff. Choose the Game/App you want to backup. In my case I will choose eBuddy. Be sure to tap on the checkbox and not on the name because you will run the app and not select it that way.
Now on the bottom you see Backup, tap on that and it will start making the backup file.
Once it is done you should see the following message:

Now let's check it out:
There as you can see we've made a backup of the app we want to keep.
